Our 2020 “Drive-In” promise to you:

We’re going to do everything in our power to make sure that you, our fans, have the safest and best air show experience possible.

Below is a general overview, from start to finish, on what to expect from the 2020 air show. We’ve received hundreds of questions and believe what follows will answer 95% of everyone’s questions. If not, feel free to reach out to us after reading through this page.

Here’s what a 2020 WOHA “Drive-In” Ticket gets you (think old school “Drive-In” movie theater, with a lot more personal space):

You Get ONE Parking Area Measuring 19-Feet Deep by 24-Feet Wide (456 Square Feet)

Gates open at 8 AM each day (Friday, Saturday & Sunday). Each “Drive-In” ticket holder will be allotted at 19-foot-deep by 24-feet-wide, air show viewing area on the paved ramp at Ellington Airport. That’s 456 square feet of fun! Because of how our performers fly their demonstration profiles, every parking area will have an excellent view of the sky.

Air Show Arrival Check-in and Health Screenings

Upon arriving at the airport, everyone in your vehicle must wear a mask and answer a series of health screening questions. This includes all vehicle occupants having their temperature taken with a touch-less thermometer. This process is to keep everyone safe and is required for us to get our permits and allow people on airport property.

Vehicle Entry Limitations

Based on your personal 19 ft x 24 ft viewing area, vehicles cannot be longer than 19 feet in length, from bumper to bumper. Additionally, we cannot accommodate vehicles taller than 8 feet. The 8-foot height limitation also ensures that everyone has a great view of the action. RVs, trailers, and campers are NOT permitted.

When in your parking area, you’re welcome to take off your mask!

After parking your car, we welcome everyone to get comfortable. While in your drive-in parking area, feel free to remove your mask. We ask everyone to “mask up” if you are leaving your parking area for any reason. If you want to wear your mask for the whole event, that is also ok.

Each individual parking area is separated with a buffer zone on every side in accordance with local and state health requirements. Your marked parking area has a maximum capacity of 6 individuals (children are included in this count). Combining multiple groups in one parking area is prohibited.

Plan to bring chairs to watch the action outside of your vehicle. You may also want to bring a hat or personal umbrella to protect yourself from the sun. Don’t forget the sunscreen! Pop-up tents and large beach umbrellas are NOT permitted due to the danger of them taking flight, and they obstruct the view of fellow air show attendees.

What about food and drinks?

We’re encouraging people to bring their own food and drinks, since there will be no on-site food vendors.

  • Grills and BBQ’s, regardless of size are NOT permitted. Glass is prohibited due to safety concerns.
  • Alcoholic beverages are allowed in cans or plastic containers. Please drink responsibly!

All coolers, bags, cars and so forth are subject to search at any time. It can be upon arrival or any other time you’re on airport property. In all instances, security, military, and law enforcement officers will be clearly identified.

At the end of the event, please make sure to dispose of your trash or take it home with you – littering on the ramp is not permitted. There will trash bins by the porta-potties.

Our Staff and Great Volunteers are There to Help You!

Our awesome staff and volunteers will be working each parking row. They will be easily identified and happy to help you as best they can. Porta-Potties, including accommodations for those with disabilities, will be positioned at the end of every parking row. These porta potties will be cleaned continuously throughout the day.

When Does the Flying Start and End?

Several people have asked, “when does the flying start?” Currently, subject to change, opening ceremonies will begin at 10 AM CT, each day and all flying demonstrations will end before 3 PM CT. You’ll have approximately 4 hours of action-packed aviation excitement.

What About the Performer Schedule?

As an Insider, keep a lookout for more exciting performer announcements. As in previous years, you’ll receive the Insider ONLY schedule each air show morning. And yes, the airshow schedule is accessible from any mobile device.

Are there display aircraft this year?

There will be no onsite aircraft, due to health restrictions. Imagine having the clean the C-5 Super Galaxy. That would take light-years!

Exiting the Airshow

Houston is fortunate enough to work with one of the best parking companies in the world. Staff and volunteers will direct vehicles to the airport exits, after the flying is finished. Exiting the airshow has never been easier, you’ll spend less time waiting in traffic and be home before you know it.

Maximizing Your “Drive-In” Ticket Value

You’re going to get the best value for your dollar by bringing family and friends to the air show. Our approved plan allows “Drive-In” ticket holders to have up to 6 people (this number includes children of all ages) in each vehicle. Please make sure you take advantage of that opportunity.

If you’d like to Sit Next to Family/Friends

If you want to sit near family or friends, please plan to arrive to the event at the exact same time. One way to do this, is to meet up off-site and caravan to the entrance gate. As a reminder, each parking area has a maximum capacity of 6 individuals, groups of more than 6 are not permitted in one parking area.

Why are 2020 “Drive-In” tickets so expensive?

In order to get all the event permits we had to reduce our event capacity by over 75%. If, we didn’t reduce the airshow capacity and comply with all the safety restrictions, there would be no 2020 airshow. Imagine having to pay all your current bills with 75% less income. That said, we sincerely appreciate all our customers supporting the 2020! We’re doing everything we can to give you, your family, and friends a great (and safe) airshow, given the circumstances. Please know, any profit from the airshow goes toward youth aviation scholarships, our 2021 Special Show for Special Needs, and to help keep CAF’s historic warbirds flying … all thanks to your support!

CAN I Bring my service animal to the “Drive-In” Airshow?

We love all pets, but only clearly identified service animals are allowed on airshow grounds.

What happens if the airshow is canceled?

As in previous years, we’ll ensure that you get to see an airshow and you are happy with the experience!

Can I exit and re-enter the air show?

You are welcome to leave the airshow at any time, including early. After most people arrive at the show, the entrance lanes are reversed to exit lanes. This is done to ensure that everyone gets home as quickly as possible. The only disadvantage is that re-entry is not permitted.

Do I have to wear a mask and answer the health screening questions?

All Air Show attendees must comply with entry regulations, which include wearing a mask upon arrival and answering the health entry questions.

Will I be Able to Hear the Air Show from my car?

Yes, we will have a sound system and announcer just like previous years.

Can I watch the Air Show from outside Ellington Airport?

Short answer, “yes, absolutely!” Please note, we’re not encouraging you to do so. Every performer flight profile is based on doing their most spectacular maneuvers at show center. And you won’t get a good view from outside the airshow grounds. At best, you’ll see a few aggressive repositioning turns from the outside, but nowhere as cool as being upfront to all the airshow action.
