About Lone Star Flight Museum
“The Lone Star Flight Museum (LSFM) is a 501c3 aviation museum and STEM learning center with a mission to celebrate flight and achievements in Texas aviation history as well as educate and engage our youth through science, technology, engineering and math. In addition to the Texas Aviation Hall of Fame, the 130,000 square foot museum is home to a flying collection of rare and historic commercial, general aviation and military aircraft. Guests can experience the wonder of flight in a warbird ride and get hands-on in the high-tech Aviation Learning Center and Flight Academy. Multiple public and STEM-focused education programs create an unforgettable museum experience for visitors of all ages.”
LSFM History
“The Lone Star Flight Museum (LSFM) opened to the public in November 1990 at Scholes Field in Galveston, Texas as a dream come true for its founder, Robert Waltrip. His expansive collection of aircraft created an amazing museum experience, and in 1999, added the Texas Aviation Hall of Fame to the museum. In 2017, the museum relocated to Houston at Ellington Airport. LSFM’s move from Galveston was much more than a change in location. It marked the transformation into a flight museum experience designed to inspire and educate future generations, honor those who flew in the past and commemorate the rich history of Texas aviation, highlighting its impact on the state, the nation and the world.”

- Briefing Room
All of the exhibits were reviewed by a committee of middle-school science teachers for content and connections to principles included in TEKS benchmarks. Exhibits were also reviewed by a committee of pilots for accuracy of aeronautical content.”
Space Gallery
“The newest edition to the many aviation-inspired experiences at the museum! SPACE GALLERY offers a deeper understanding of what it was like for Space Shuttle astronauts to train, live and work in space, the exhibit features the NASA Crew Compartment Trainer-2 (CCT-2) and EVA Airlock System, the Space Shuttle Motion Base Simulator and other artifacts from NASA, including a Rover and Humanoid.
Highlighting this history, the exhibit includes a series of cases and displays with medical kits, shuttle tools, astronaut sleeping bag and other artifacts that detail what life in space is like for an astronaut. Adding a personal aspect to the exhibit are several personal items from retired NASA astronauts, including Mike Forman, mayor of the City of Friendswood and Gene Cernan, the last astronaut to walk on the moon.
A viewing platform will allow visitors to peek inside the middeck of the CCT-2 and the airlock system, and scheduled tours inside the rover will also be offered on a regular basis. Adding an immersive and interactive aspect to the exhibit are three touchscreens that will take visitors through the anatomy of a shuttle, a virtual tour inside the CCT-2 middeck and flight deck and a history of the space shuttle missions.”
Texas Aviation Hall of Fame
“The Texas Aviation Hall of Fame was established in 1995 through a resolution by the 74th Texas Legislature and signed by then Gov. George W. Bush to honor and recognize Texans and Texas companies or organizations that have made significant and lasting contributions to the advancement of aviation. There are currently 97 individuals and groups in the Texas Aviation Hall of Fame, in four categories which include trailblazers and explorers, wartime aviators, leaders, entrepreneurs and innovators. The Texas Aviation Hall of Fame represents trailblazers and explorers such as Bessie Coleman and Wiley Post; leaders such as Presidents Dwight D. Eisenhower, George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush; World War II aviators Tex Hill, the Doolittle Raiders, Tuskegee Airmen and Women Airforce Service Pilots; astronauts Eileen Collins, Joe Engle and Gene Cernan; and entrepreneurs Howard Hughes and Rod Lewis.”
“From Space to Sea”: Only on Display Until March of 2025
“From Space to Sea” is a traveling art exhibit courtesy of the United States Navy Art Collection. It is a collection of original artworks depicting moments of the United States Navy’s role in the Space Program. The Navy was largely responsible for the recovery of astronaut crews who had safely landed in the ocean after a successful mission and the collection highlights some of the poignant moments of the time.”
“Alongside “From Space to Sea” is a selection of framed objects from the Lone Star Flight Museum’s Albert Cleere Collection. The Albert Cleere Collection comes from the family of the late Albert Cleere, a prominent banker in Houston who was the go-to banker for the astronauts. Cleere formed friendships with many of them – thus setting the stage for an amazing collection that showcased their mutual admiration.”
“Admission to “From Space to Sea” is included with a general admission ticket, members are always free!”
