Annular Eclipse to bring a “ring of fire” at WOHA 2023 on Saturday, October 14th-FB

This year’s Saturday airshow will be so cool, you’ll need shades! Not only will some of the best pilots in the world be flying for you, the solar system has decided to give you an extra show! On Saturday ONLY at this year’s show there will be an Annular Eclipse happening at approximately Noon CT.

What does this mean? It means you will get to see a “ring of fire” take place right in front of your eyes at the show! And thanks to our friends and partners at the Houston Camera Exchange, you will be able to look at it through your very own solar eclipse glasses. We will have them available to everyone who attends.

What is an Annular Eclipse?
An annular solar eclipse happens when the Moon passes between the Sun and Earth while it is at its farthest point from Earth. Because the Moon is farther away from Earth, it appears smaller than the Sun and does not completely cover the star. This creates a “ring of fire” effect in the sky.

Check out this cool, two minute long, video from NASA about the details of an annular eclipse!

Safety First – Thank you Houston Camera Exchange!
The Sun is never completely blocked by the Moon during an annular solar eclipse. Therefore, during an annular eclipse, it is never safe to look directly at the Sun without specialized eye protection designed for solar viewing.

Houston Camera Exchange has offered these awesome solar eclipse glasses to everyone who attends Wings Over Houston on Saturday, October 14th. You can find them at every chalet on property, and at the gates and information booths for General Admission customers. Make sure to get them, wear them, and enjoy the show mother nature will put on for you! Keep them with you for a Total Eclipse happening on April 8th, 2024.

Remember, there will be plenty of excitement and thrills at this year’s Airshow, October 14th and 15th! The only view worth capturing is within the gates of the Airshow, in front of all of the spine-tingling action.
